Jean Pierre a.k.a Kidum was born on October 28, 1974 in the Northern town of Bujumbura, Kinama in Burundi. At age 10, he entered the music industry as a drummer. In 1986, he joined the Invumero Band where he worked for six years. He later joined the Imboneza Band in 1992 for a year. Two years later, he launched his own band called Electric Power, which lasted for only a year due to the war in Burundi. Due to the political instability in the country, he ventured to Kenya in 1995 to continue his music legacy. He then joined the Hot Rod Band till 2003, paving way for him to form a new band of his own in 2004 – Boda Boda Band. Kidum’s first album, Yaramenje in 2000 opened the door to other opportunities. He has since then produced two more albums, with a fourth one now underway.
