Pioneer gospel singer Mary Atieno was the first born of nine in Kirengo Village, Karungu in Nyanza Province. A discovery that she had no sight at five months old did not deter her from achieving her destiny. The singer who is a wife, mother and pastor is credited for being among the few artistes who have redefined Kenya’ gospel music scene. During her younger days at school, she led the Starlight Choir during major events and State functions. They became instant hits among a large section of Kenyans besides being accorded immense airplay on radio and the main local television station VOK (Voice of Kenya), now KBC. Atieno now has more than 13 albums under her cap as she continues to epitomize a great ability even with a disability.
